Devil’s Bridge

Amazing hikes exist just minutes from Tlaque-Piki Sedona Retreat. Here is another favorite!

Devil’s Bridge Trailhead

Less than a 10 minute drive from our vacation rental you’ll find Devil’s Bridge trailhead. This is one of the most heavily trafficked trails in Sedona - but the views are amazing and worth it! We recommend this as one of our top hikes!

Parking, like most trail head parking in Sedona, is short in supply and requires some walking. There is a parking lot at the trailhead, but if you arrive after 7am or before 4pm, you’re not likely getting a spot. I recommend just saving yourself some time and go straight for street parking. It’s an easy walk back to the trailhead and doesn’t add too much distance.

You’ll notice right away that the first mile of the two mile out and back trail (4 miles round trip) is also used by the Jeep and 4X4 companies. Expect consistent off-road traffic. If you’re looking for a peaceful hike in nature, this isn’t it… but that doesn’t mean you should skip the hike! This is also why you’ll see the trail noted as either a 2 mile round trip or a 4 mile round trip… the first mile can be driven in. But you HAVE to have a 4x4 off road vehicle - and honestly we rarely see people drive in to hike. Most hike from the road.

The first mile is a wide easy dust/dirt/gravel/rock road. The second mile up is a nice, well traveled path with just the last short bit vertical (but not difficult). Kids and adults are able to complete this hike!

There are three great opportunities for pictures. The first is a rock ledge that overlooks the red rocks to the north. This is just a short 2 minute detour - you can’t miss it because everyone takes pictures here! (although the wait is not nearly as long as the bridge). The next is under a ledge that you hike right alongside. Climb up into a few feet for some great pictures! And finally, crossing Devil’s Bridge itself. The wait here is often long. Expect a long line as each person walks out on to the bridge, gets their picture (or 2 or 3!) and walks back. We’ll often take a picture with the bridge in the background and skip the line.

As with any hike, make sure you have water, sun protection (hat and sunglasses) and sunblock. We always wear hiking shoes too! In the spring and fall, 70’s in the sun can be warm, so we like light layers. In the summer heat, hydrate!!

When we hike, we like to take a picture of the trailhead map at the beginning of the hike, but also screenshot what the hike looks like on Google Maps. The aerial view on Google maps almost always is more exact. In most places around Sedona (it was in and out slightly here), you’ll still get some cell service on your hike. This means your little dot on Google maps will move along the trail on your phone and you can double check your progress!
